That was the message to emerge from the "Red Cliff" press junket Monday at the Carlton, where John Woo showed eight and a half minutes of new footage. "People in China have the ability to make Gladiator or Troy," said Woo, who at one stage referred to his historic Chinese epic as a "Chinese Gladiator." "(Chinese crews) are very talented, but had never had the chance to work on a big movie like this or work on effects scenes," said Woo. He said that Chinese authorities are keen for country's film-makers to learn skills from Hollywood, not its politics. "I felt very free working in China. The Chinese government was very helpful. It wants us to make better movies." Woo said that finished pic, which releases in two parts in Asia and as a single two hour story in other territories, will combine astonishing battle scenes and a very human story. "It is my dream come true to make this film. I wanted to make the biggest ever action sequences," Woo said.
