Valentine's Day is ove, but battle between in the theaters still has long ways to go, with film "A Time to Love" standing at the top.
Star Match: 2 Zhou Xun's vs. 1 Vicki Zhao Wei
Reporters found that in current "Love War", film "A Time to Love" outwits "Butterfly Lovers" aka "Yuan Yan Hu Die" and "Forever Beautiful" aka "Mei Ren Yi Jiu" - both of which happens to star co-4 Queens of China, Zhou Xun. Those that have watched Vicki's "A Time to Love" came out of theater claiming that film and Vicki's performance was definitely worth the ticket price *Note: China does not set standard prices; i.e. A rated films are more expensive than B rated films*
Quality Match: "A Time to Love" on top
"Time" not only has famous leads, but also has quality script and plot, very fitting for China's psychological satisfaction. Also with Director Huo's reputation and artistery of work, "Time" is most favored by lovers.
Due to film "Forever" having close associations with Shanghai, the film seemed to have special attention in Shanghai, posters/bilboards most prominent around the city. But even with the promotions at 5 large theaters in Shanghai, "Forever" still fell back behind "Time" as "Time" No. 2 spot for Valentine's period. "Butterfly" and "Web of Love" did not even sustain in audience's eyes. Even on Valentine's Day and New Year period, when mainland's boxoffice is low, "Time" has managed to pass the test and obtain good boxoffice record.
Market Match:
Mainland films vs. Other Major Regional/International Films
According to experts, b/c of Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day same timing, competition is particularly fierce. HK film "Seoul Raiders" (Tony Leung), 2 Hollywood films, "Time", "Butterfly", "Web of Love", "Forever" all chose to release at same time. This year, Zhou Xun's 2 movies added together could not add up to Vicki's 1 movie in the boxoffice. After winning praises and great boxoffice, "Time" will continue to spread love until early March in every major theater in China.
