Shanghai Expo organizers announced the top 10 Expo songs in 2007 tonight with many local pop stars gathering to sing for one of the world's biggest cultural events.
The top 10 songs, most of which were written and sung by local musicians, were selected from more than 600 entries since the worldwide competition opened in April.
Many celebrities, including Chow Wah Kin and Jay Chou, were invited to Shanghai to sing the top songs and to shoot advertisements to call for more submissions of Expo songs, the organizers said.
Taiwan love-song singer You Hongming, Shanghai musician Li Quan and Chinese actress Zhao Wei are among the singers invited to sing for the Expo tonight.
"I think the top songs are full of friendliness and very warm," said You during a visit to the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.
Organizers will choose 10 Expo tunes as candidates for the official Expo theme song each year from 2006 until 2009. The final deadline for theme song submissions will be January 2009.
October 2008 is the deadline for volunteer songs.
